Papuan Gulf, Papua New Guinea

An attractive old head ornament, comprising 44 dog teeth and one European, porcelain trade tooth. All are fixed to a woven cane band which has in turn been wrapped in red dyed cotton fabric. There is great patination from age and wear on all of the dog teeth, the fabric most likely a later addition. In excellent condition, an interesting and wearable item. Circa 1960′s
