An Aibom Village ceramic sago storage pot. Made by women using the “coil technique”; building up coiled bands of clay which are then smoothed down to give the smooth finish. The decorative face is then added. The pots are then baked near open fires or they are simply left to cure under houses. The natural pigment decoration is the last addition. Weathered patina, in excellent conditon. Circa 1960’s.
