A collection of three Massim nose pieces. All are carved from clam shell, and bear a lovely golden patina from extensive use. These three date from the late 19th to the very early 20th Century, and are great examples in excellent condition. Mounted on a custom steel display stand.

A Sudest Island lime spatula. Finely carved from a section of turtle shell, with a decorative openwork carved terminal. Traces of betel stain still remain on the tip. A very attractive utilitarian object carved from a beautiful material; in excellent condition. Mid 20th Century. Mounted on a custom steel display stand.

An elegant old shell spoon. Skilfully carved from a section of large turban shell, used to eat sago and other soft staples. Lovely smooth round edges from extensive use over time. Wonderful natural colour, which we have done our best to capture in the images. In fine condition, with one small chip on the underside of the lip of the spoon. Mounted on a custom steel display stand.

An old Tiwi Islands Ceremonial Club. Beautifully carved with an elegant open pronged tip, and decorated with natural ochres in cross-hatched motif. Weathered, with some slight muting of the pigments, in overall excellent condition. Early 20th Century; custom mounted.

Massim Greenstone Presentation Axe Blade – bf847

A fine Massim greenstone presentation axe blade. These axe blades were traded or presented as gifts throughout the Massim region and are still to this day highly revered as a form of currency. This is an excellent example with great age, probably centuries. There are a few small nicks around the edges from time in the field; in otherwise perfect condition. Mounted on a custom steel display stand.

Southern Highlands Tobacco “Brus” Smoking Pipe – bf884

Southern Highlands Province, Papua New Guinea.

An old Southern Highlands Bamboo pipe. Used to smoke the local bush tobacco known as “Brus” The entire length beautifully decorated with incised and burnt motif with some applied natural pigment. This example has definitely seen plenty of use, and still has quite an odour, the pipe itself with a glossy surface patina. Circa Early 20th Century; in excellent condition.

Three 19th Century pig tusk ornaments from the top of a lime gourd. All exhibit a beautiful smooth golden patina from extensive handling. Two with pierced tips for additional bagi attachments. In perfect condition. Mounted on a custom steel display stand.
