Lovely smooth round edges from extensive use over time. Wonderful natural colour, which we have done our best to capture in the images. These axe blades were traded or presented as gifts throughout the Massim region and are still to this day highly revered as a form of currency. This is an excellent example with great age, probably centuries. There are a few small nicks around the edges from time in the field; in otherwise perfect condition. Southern Highlands Province, Papua New Guinea.An old Southern Highlands Bamboo pipe. Used to smoke the local bush tobacco known as “Brus” The entire length beautifully decorated with incised and burnt motif with some applied natural pigment. This example has definitely seen plenty of use, and still has quite an odour, the pipe itself with a glossy surface patina. Circa Early 20th Century; in excellent condition.
