Massim Lime Pot – bf851

An old Massim decorated lime pot. A large spherical hollowed out gourd complete with its woven bark fibre and pig tusk stopper. Pearl and bagi shell attachments with some small green plastic discs as a substitute for bagi discs. This is a great example and the weave on the stopper is extremely fine and incorporates a rim of bagi attachments around the base of the pigs tusk. The inside still bears some remnant lime. Overall this pieces is in fantastic condition and comes with with a perspex mount. Early 20th Century.

An old and beautiful Abelam coconut cup. Used during ceremonies to drink Yam soup. Highly carved on the outer surface in classic abstract motif with a stylised spirit figure in the centre wearing a ceremonial headdress. Fantastic glossy patina from extensive handling; in fine condition. Mounted on a custom steel display stand.

Abelam Female “Yuwibasari” Ancestor Figure – bf877

An impressive larger Abelam female ancestor figure. Known as a “Yuwibasari” this figure is said to represent women and their contribution towards the Yam planting and harvesting. Carved with great form, and decorated with natural pigments, shell earrings through pierced ears, and human hair attached to the head and genital area. Although not an ancient figure, most likely being carved in the 1980′s; she has fantastic traditional decoration; pierced ears and septum; which you usually only find on older sculpture. A fine looking figure in excellent condition. Mounted on a custom steel display stand.

An attractive Ramu betel Mortar. Carved with two opposing Mask faces, and two animal heads that appear to be flying foxes extending from each side of the bowl. Soft rounded edges and a glossy patina from handling; the inside of the bowl still nicely betel stained. In excellent condition.
